Hiking and Fynbos

Posted by admin on September 25, 2011

Barrydale has four hiking trail varying in distance, that wander off into the surrounding mountains. The trails were laid by Steve de Lange and Ben Moodie and were cut by municipal workers and volunteer high school scholars.

The natural Fynbos in the area is a major asset of these hikes. The fires in 2000 helped the fynbos to develop further as the seeds spread.

Not only is the fynbos amazingly diverse but so is the variety of bird life in the area. As one sits in the garden at the guesthouse, one can already see the variety and abundance of bird life in the area.

Directions for the hikes are available at the guesthouse reception.
